Uncommon Math Heroes Community of Practice

Help young people see themselves as mathematical thinkers.

Uncommon Math Heroes Event

The Uncommon Math Heroes Community of Practice is a four-session learning experience for Out-of-School Time (OST) program teams. It's grounded in Wyoming stories, backed by research, and designed to provide language and tools that can be used right away. No math expertise is required. Just curiosity, a willingness to examine your own story, and a commitment to showing up for the young people in your program.

WYEN is now recruiting program participants!

Join us for four 75-minute virtual sessions on Zoom. They will be held every other week. Between sessions, programs will put their new skills into practice!

  • Session 1: What’s Your Math Story? Explore our own experiences and beliefs about math.
  • Session 2: The Math Is Already There: Learn to notice and name the math happening all around us.
  • Session 3: When They Hit the Wall: Turn struggle into an opportunity for persistence, problem-solving, and help-seeking.
  • Session 4: Build the Bridge: Put it all together with practical strategies for supporting every learner.

Get Involved

Participating programs will receive practical tools, activities, and resources to use with young people. Join us to rethink what math can look like! For more information, contact Program Associate Emily Vercoe, emilyv@wycf.org or 307.721.8300.
